Hidden Charms 6

Hidden Charms is a bi-annual conference on magical house protection and related topics. Expert speakers from around the world converge on an historic British city to share their research on magical house protection in a friendly and supportive environment. Each speaker has 20 minutes to deliver a focused piece of research and then there are 10 minutes for them to field questions from attendees. One of the many things people really enjoy about the day is that there is a 45-minute break in the morning and in the afternoon where everyone can mingle, chat and enjoy tea, coffee and biscuits!

Hidden Charms 6 will be held on Saturday 17th April 2027 in Edinburgh at The Counting House, West Nicholson Street. It will run from 9.30am through to 5.00pm. Conference proceedings will be published fairly soon after the event. Speakers are as follows:
Brian Hoggard
An exploration of some of the unusual apotropaic features present inside Tewkesbury Abbey.
Rosie Barrett
Believe it or not? - Uncovering protective marks and concealed objects hiding in museum collections.
Leticia Cortina Aracil
Apotropaic devices in Spain.
Sylvia Pizzinat
Looking at apotropaic marks in Scotland.
Judith Tulfer
The written charms of Mid Wales between 1840 – 1939
Lee Ignire
Recycling the Witch Bottle
Benjamin Stimpson
Popular beliefs about hidden charms and apotropaic magic as recorded in the folklore record of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

Foundation Sacrifice or Apotropaic Agent? Purpose, Intent and Magical Efficacy of Concealed Deposits
